Metal Gear Solid 4: Gameplay
July 25, 2007
I was reading about this on Kotaku but the video wasn’t working so I looked them up on YouTube for myself. Obviously, sickness ensued…
Firstly, here are links to Part 1 and Part 2. Check it out for yourself. The quality isn’t amazing but the gameplay is insane (especially near the end of Part 2).
Honestly, I am a huge fan of the series as I’ve stated before. The latest installment is set for Q1 of 2008 (I’m guessing that that means the first financial quarter of 2008) here in North America, while the date for the Japanese release will be sometime in 2007 (TBA).
If PS3 were getting killed purely because of a lack of an amazing (and exclusive) game library, I’m almost sure this title (coupled with the recent price drop) would be more than enough to really get the PS3 out of the gate. So far, I must admit that my favourite console series (i.e. the Playstation line of consoles, duh) hasn’t been doing nearly as well as Nintendo’s competitors. Just look around at the number of DS’s you see compared with PSP’s. Nevertheless, MGS4 is set to be a PS3 exclusive (if my information has been correct) and that means the meager Xbox 360 and the Wii won’t (and probably shouldn’t) be getting any MGS4 ports. I doubt the Wii could handle the graphics heavy ways of the game (MGS is a series that has always been insane on looks) and the Xbox 360… well, that’s just not cool.
Anyway, many friends (and some family) has asked me whether I was going to get my hands on a PS3 anytime soon and I’ve had to answer an adamant “No… I don’t think so.” This is probably due to my slight infamy at having snagged a PS2 only weeks after its launch here. I (technically my father) bought it at full price (all $450 + tax) from Toys R’ Us along with a copy of Time Splitters that, sadly enough, no longer works.
It (i.e. the PS3) costs a bunch (or at least used to). It’d also be stupid of myself to buy such a powerful system and not have a decent television set to take full advantage of the graphics (does the PS3 even have a normal RCA output?). So buying a PS3 would also entail buying a new television set with HD superpowers, and I doubt my parents (especially my mother) would be willing to shift those kinds of numbers from the “Carl Wong Education Fund” to the “Carl Wong Anti-Education Fund” as of right now.
Aside: I did kill my IB French and Economics exams (I checked today) and so that might just get me well on my way to loads of scholarship money…
